Suggested Adoption Donation
As we have recently took a very close look at our finances it has come to our attention that the donation we ask for when adopting a pet does not even break even with what we are spending obvioulsy the loss is greater on some animals than others but it is for this reason that we are increasing the suggested adoption donation to £75 as of the 1st February 2010. Any animal adopted before will be at the rate of a suggested £60.
Please compare this to the amounts spent on each animal below and you will be adopting an animal that has been neutered, wormed and deflead.
It has come to our a attention today that someone has been complaining to the Western Telegraph that our dogs are not 'free to good home' we do yes ask for a suggested donation to help cover cost, the reason that they are in this column in the paper as this is the only free one and it is not cost effective to pay to advertise. We would like to clairify why we have to encourage a donation it is due to amount we spend on each animal. As a responsible rescue all the animals in our care are Spayed/Neutered, Deflea'd and Wormed where nessessary vet treatment is provided to make sure animal is at optimum health and the daily costs of food heating transport etc. Costs are as follows
Spaying of a bitch up to £120
Castrastion of a dog upto £95
Flea and worm treatment up to £10 per animal
and a life time of support and advice
And then undefined amounts on vet treatment, food, heating, transport some animals have cost thousands of pounds.
I would also like to say that if we do not get adverts in local papers we DO NOT home dogs and in turn cannot rescue more so please think before complaining as it is the dogs that you are affecting and as you can see by the amount spent out on each animal the suggested donation of £60 does not even come close!
Green Acres Blog
We are going to try our best (time allowing) to update our blog at least every couple of days so all of our web watchers can see what is going on at the rescue, and what an up hill struggle it can be.

Duke
Duke is a BIG softie staffie, hes a real foolish lad that is going to need a strong owner that is willing to do some more training with him, he does have some basic commands but needs further education. He was saved from the pound after 7 days as his owners chose not to claim him and possibly face being put to sleep. He will make a lovely pet for someone who has the time to put in but believe me Duke will repay you 10 fold.
Update - Duke is a dog second to none, hes got a fantastic temperment and if you like staffies hes the dog for you he does need a little more trianing not to pull on lead etc, but he just want to play and be loved. More pics of Duke on Green Acres Blog page.
Please remember when applying to adopt one of our animals that a lot of effort and expense has gone into the dog that you are taking into your home. The cost of the flea treatment and the wormers are very high and should the dog need to be neutered it is a very high drain on our limited resources. It is for this reason that we suggest a donation of £75.00 for each dog. Please read 'How to adopt a dog ' page.
Leo
Leo is a 2 year old Border Collie male, hes very lively but a little portly at the moment probably due to lack of exercise, he too has been 7 days in the council pound and has now come to search for his happy ending. He will need an active home both physically and mentally to keep him entertained if you think youve got what it takes to own this intellegent yet rewarding breed then please get in touch. Leo needs a home with NO cats.
Leo is a loveable collie with typical collie energy levels, he will need an active home that is willing to do some further training with him, he does have basics though of sit stay lie down and paw.

Rivers

Rivers is a male westie approx 6yrs old, he has just been in the pound for seven days so has now come to us to find a forever home, he is in desperate need of a groom at the moment but will soon look a million dollars!
Pictures show River before and after his makeover, he was an absolute star throughout, after 2.5 hours of clipping, grooming and bathing he looked a thousand times better. While being groomed a few health problems where discovered, being a westie, Rivers is prone to bad skin which he has got and after a trip to vets today he now has a special shampoo to try and control the irritation, this has been an ongoing problem as it has actually changed the pigment of his skin. His dew claws had curled right round due to not being clipped and pierced into his pads, this had caused his feet to become infected. He also has an ulcer on his eye and in desperate need of a dental which has caused his gums to become inflamed and infected to.
All of these problems are all due to years of neglect and who ever chooses to give Rivers the future he deserves will need to be aware some of these conditions will be on going and can only be controlled never cured.
Big thank you to Keri's K9 cuts for making Rivers much more comfortable!

Corky
Is about 3 years old. He is a small to medium size, He spent a couple of years at the end of a chain and so is a bit overweight, yet despite his previous existence he is a very happy boy, if you could imagine a small lab body on terrier's legs, he is a bit of a misfit but is really a very loving boy.
This boy is LOVELY! He captured the heart of everyone he met at the rescue today and got on well with everyone, people and dogs alike. If you are looking for a well balanced but an unusual looking dog then Corky is for you.

Molly

This is the beautiful Molly! This poor dog has not had the best of lives, she originally was saved from the pound after her 7 days was up and she faced being destroyed, she was then homed where she lived happily but due to a change in the owners situation she was returned and now Molly longs for a home and owner to call her own.
She is a lovely girl that is trustworthy with adults and children alike. Molly has an issue with dog aggression but if she is walked on a lead or loose in a dog free area this is not a problem. Molly has excellent manners recalls in open spaces, sits, gives paw, travels well in car. She just needs someone to give her a chance. She needs a home with no other pets as she is not good with cats either. Molly loves activity and loves to play with kongs, rope and her football, loves nothing more than a kick about with the children in the field. Please give this poor dog a chance are you the family she can one day call her own?!
Molly is in the care of Yvonne Parkins Rescue for more info please call 01348 831103 or email yvonnepatparkins@aol.com
