GREEN ACRES ANIMAL RESCUE

27-07-10 - We currently are recieving alot of calls wanting to adopt dogs but the potential adopters have holidays booked and want to reserve the dog of their choice until they return, this is something we cannot do we have to home dogs to allow space for us to take in more. So if you are thinking of applying for a dog and have a holiday booked that means you cannot adopt until after the break please apply after the holiday is over.  We are also very honest about what we know about the animals in our care but we can only tell you what we know, if we know the dog has previously lived with cats then we can usually be sure that they will be ok in a household with a cat, if we dont know we cannot be sure that it will work out. Some of our longtermers have some potential interest so with huge cross fingers my next update will have the good news of some of them going off to their new homes. We are attending P.C.C. PAWS IN THE PARK this sunday (1st Aug) at Scolton Manor nr Haverfordwest, it starts at 10.30am and is on till 4pm, there will be lots going on demonstrations by police dog handlers, sheepdog trials, behaviourist and we will be there with a stall and our rescues wil be there to. Micro chipping will be available at a cost and it is free entry. It would be great so see some of you so please come along and say hello.  We are also building up a data base of homecheckers for all over the UK so if you would like to add your name to this list please get in touch we will tell you exactly what we need done, we need people locally in the Tenby/Saundersfoot area, Fishguard, Carmarthen any area really please drop us an email with your details.

26-07-10 - Well, kitten season has arrived with a bang, or lots of kittens at least, we have 6 in at the moment & more than a few watiing to come in,as we just haven't got room for them all, we have also just taken in ANOTHER mum with 4  2 week old babies. That call came in at half past midnight, someone with a total of 8 cats & kittens they wanted rid of by 6pm the next day!!! If you think you can give a warm cosy lap to 1 of these little darlins please contact Georgie 07976904315 & PLEASE if you have a cat that hasn't been spayed or neutered yet GET IT DONE NOW - CPL will give vouchers towards the cost if you are on certain benefits

19-07-10 - Our Bingo we held on the 13th July at the Royal British Legion Milford Haven was a huge success, we raised £445.50, this will be put towards clearing our ever growing vet bill. We have some interest in some of our long stayers so fingers crossed they will be going to their forever home soon. I saw one of the dogs we homed recently Lexi a German Shepherd and she is doing so well and has a lovely happy home, its the times like this that makes all the stress worth it. As regular web watchers will know we recently had to have a hernia repair operation done on Jimmy a Boxer we have in, well unfortunately Manson a Rottie x German Shepherd we have taken in has the same condition, this means another £500-£600 vet bill for just one dog! We will of course give him this treatment to make sure he is a healthy dog before homing, he deserves a good chance of a future and we will work tirelessly to provide this. If anyone can find it in their hearts to make a donation to help cover his costs they will be gratefully received. I feel that I am constantly asking for money but these animals are in desperate need and if we don't help who will? so please forgive the begging. I pray we will have a good few weeks to have a break from the few constant weeks of stress.  I will really try to make the next update a more positive one.

09-07-10 - Firstly we would like to say a big thank you to the Milford Haven Beaver club for collecting £59.54 and numerous items off our wishlist, it was very kind of you. We have a few ideas for fundraising planned for this year the bingo next week, the Paws in the Park day at Scolton Manor and an open day at the rescue in August if you feel you can help out at any of these please get in touch. Homing is still very slow at the moment but we think this could be the time of year as everyone is planning holidays rather than looking to give a dog a good home. But we hope this will pick up, they sit and wait patiently to be given their chance and with our love and care I pray they will all one day know what a loving home is. So many people say 'oh i couldnt do what you do' 'it would break my heart' almost as if we are immune to the pain but we are not. We are just willing to work through the pain to give them all a second chance.  With a few events coming up we are looking for someone to print us off some posters/leaflets does anyone work anywhere that this would be possible if you can help out with this please drop us an email.

07-07-10 - Please have a look at Sindy on the Cats page, she has done an amazing job of bringing up her 4 babies, now they have all got new laps & poor Sindy is still waiting She is a lovely girl, very affectionate & laid back, she has been spayed & is about a year old, also Calypso, our little black girl kitten, is still waiting, she is ready for her new home in a week, has been wormed flea'd & is using her litter tray, she is a darlin.

03-07-10 - Its been a little up and down past few days but today the only interest we've had in poor Ozzie didnt work out, but the very kind people made a lovely donation, but on the positive side Mika will be going to her new home tomorrow I pray and hope that it all works out for her shes a special girl who deserves a good chance of happiness now. Homing is slow at the moment, time of year we guess everyone planning there summer holidays and not thinking about getting a dog. But it will pick up again, so we are increasing advertising to help as much as possible. We have the Bingo Fundraiser booked for the 13th July @ the Royal British Legion, Milford Haven. Its a popular event and a good night out so please come along and support us. We have some great prizes - free hair cut @ Identity Johnston, tickets to Folly Farm and Oakwood, and many many more.

25-06-10 - Sorry its been a while since the last update but we have been very busy, the calls never end of animals needing help but we have to have space, we have dogs in at the moment that dont fit into the publics idea of ideal pets, some have health problems, some have training needs and some are just 'not pretty'! But in our eyes they are all beautiful. They deserve so much more, day after day we see them in their kennel jails and pray their day of finding that forever home will come soon. Offers of homes have been few this week but yet we advertise at every oppertunity hopefully next week will bring some genuine enquiries.  Without our team of dedicated volunteers I dont know how we would manage, and for that I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart. I know its not easy and some days are very stressful but when we see an animal going off to a new loving home it makes it all worth while.  I really want to mention poor Summer, she is an ex breeding dog and when she come in she was very nervous but within days has realised what love is and now craves the attention - she will make someone a very loyal companion. Our two litters of kittens will be ready soon, they are all very sweet and cheeky little devils - pure cuteness! Well thats it for now I hope our next update will bring good news of nice new homes for our charges. Please spare them a thought and a prayer.

16-06-10 - I have probably said it before but running a rescue is a bit like juggling 100 balls, and we live in fear of dropping one. Lately we have taken in a few dogs that have medical problems not only do these have a HUGE drain on our funds but they are also harder to home so are with us longer. We refuse to have a dog put to sleep for financial inconvienience if we feel once the treatment is given the animal will lead a happy life. People seem to want the perfect animal when they approach a rescue and in most cases the animals are here through no fault of their own but some do have problems and to us these are the animals that really need someone to give them a chance.  I will give you some examples of animals in at the moment.

Ozzie - came in with untreated condition he has had to have numerous vet visits, xrays, dental and ongoing daily medication that costs £2 a day Ozzies bill is now well over £400.

Mika - came in with an ongoing unrinary tract problem and within 24 hours was diagnosed with pyometra and needed 3 injections of very strong antibiotic which cost £60 each so with the numerous vet trips her bill is now over £300.

Jimmy went into be neutered yesterday and it was discovered he had perineal hernia, this can be if left untreated a fatal condition, it is more common in Boxers and unneutered males (another good reason to neuter your pets). He is now on lactolose medicine for a week before going back to have the operation done estimated costs for op alone are £500-£600. And all of this has been in the space of a month.

We then have people that question our adoption donation, firstly our adoption donation is alot lower than most other rescues, and as you can see the adoption donation does not come anywhere near to covering costs. We then have to rely on our takings from our charity shop and other fundraisers. If you are reading this and agree please get invloved there are many things you can do - make a donation on line or by cheque doesnt matter how small every £1 helps, organise a fundraiser this is a brilliant way of helping these animals, or maybe adopt an animal.  We are always being asked to take in more animals and until we rehome some and make space we cannot take more. It breaks my heart as I know there is an animal that will suffer and the more you help the more you want to help but with a combined effort I think we can help more so please get in touch. I leave with a heavy heart of thinking how we will pay the bills but as I have heard before where their is great love miracles will happen so I will patiently wait.

URGENT APPEAL

15-06-10 - We are in desperate need of help for a poor cat who has been sorely neglected. He has been taken in to one of the local vets & they have asked us to help, he is not a Green acres cat. He is black/white & roughly 5-6 years old, has been neutered & has flu like symptoms which the vet is treating. BUT we have no fosterer's available that can take him in, he needs to be an only cat. If we can't find somewhere for him, either in foster or better still a new home for him, he will be put to sleep, & we can't let that happen. The vet can only keep him for a few days so PLEASE can someone help this poor boy, all he needs is his 2nd chance.

Please contact me asap if you can help

Georgie 07976904315

07-06-10 - On the weekend a very overweight Malamute came to us to find a new loving home as her owner had gone into full time care, yesterday she seemed down in dumps but we thought this was due to a urine infection she was being treated for but today she had a bloody discharge so after a trip to our vet we found out she has a pyometra (infection of the womb) and this can be fatal, usual treatment is to perform an emergancy spay but due to Mika's weight this was not possible. So the only treatment to save her life was an injection given today, tomorrow and one in seven days. This is a new pyometra treatment and comes at a cost £60 per injection so the injections alone will cost £180! Plus all other costs incurred. Our vet bill is climbing again this month with Mika and Ozzies bills plus all the ordinary monthly costs. Please if you can find it in your heart to make a donation to help these dogs health improve before they go there happy new homes. This can be done on our donations & how to help page. (Good news is that Mika's urinary tract problems seem to be clearing up). The litter of puppies we have in have either now gone to their new homes or are in the process of being homechecked. We still have poor Ollie and Luna both lovely dogs just needing a second chance.

05-06-10  - We have had an email from a lady living in the Winch Crescent area of Haverfordwest. She has just lost her 2nd cat to what the vet thinks is poisoning from Anti freeze. This is deadly to cats but for some reason they like the taste. It could be possible that is has been spilt or dumped somewhere. Please keep anti freeze secure in it's container & mop up spills.

31-05-10 - Another busy week down at the rescue and we couldnt manage without our volunteers, who give up there free time to help us out many thanks to you all especially Marie and Trudi.

Green acres is run by a very small team of people who all work full time as well as look after the dogs and fundraise money to keep the rescue going. We are always looking out for volunteers to help out.

If you want to help even in a small way please get in touch.

24-05-10  Are you enjoying the hot weather, please remember when your just wearing T shirt and shorts your dog is wearing a fur coat that he cannot take off. Make sure they have some where shady to go, plenty of water etc.  Over the last few days we have had quite a few calls asking us to take dogs that have snapped at kids, probably due to the very hot weather and children not understanding, now the poor dog has to go!!!! and now he has a tag of being a biter making it even harder for him to get a new home. Please think if your hot and bothered so is your dog.

21-05-10  Found near the Torch theatre, black & white female cat, she is living in a shed, please see kittens & cats page for details

20-05-10 - I can't believe how many cats there are out there that are not neutered or spayed, I have taken calls for 3 pregnant cats & 1 mum with 4 babies in someones shed over the last 48 hours! & what makes it worse is that these poor girlies are being dumped when they are at their most vulnerable.  If your tom cat is out there un neutered, he is at risk of catching Feline aids or leukaemia which is transmitted through fighting, & that's what they do if there is a Queen about in season, & she will get infected as well. At the least they end up with abscesses. PLEASE get them neutered, Cats Protection League will give vouchers towards the cost if you are on means tested benefits  03000121212

16-05-10 - We feel we have been treated very unfairly by the National Park, the letters and emails they have sent to everyone who contacted them for us was very vague and sounded very much like we had given up. The National Park was fully aware that we reluctantly withdrew the original application on advice and to have further benefit to ourselves, so they have always been aware that another application would be submitted immediately. The National Park are a huge organisaton with all their staff, planning consultants, solicitors and no problems with money against US! A small animal rescue run by a handful of volunteers and we struggle to raise the funds to pay the bills, we feel the fight is unfair as it stands without added difficulty by them sending very vague letters.  So we are now going to have seek legal advise but again this wil cost money, money which should be spend on the animals. Are you a solicitor or do you know an animal loving solicitor that would help us out please please please get in touch.  We are really being made to fight for this and if thats what it takes thats what we will do. A great animal rescuer, Sylvia from Many Tears Animal Rescue very often says 'where there is great love miracles will happen' and I wholeheartly believe it will!  Also big thank you to Kate who is a photographer who visited the centre yesterday, she took some fantastic pictures of the dogs some below and for the rest please visit our facebook group. Ozzie seems to be improving we are getting him out of his kennel as much as possible and hes having gentle exercise and strict diet. If he comes down to a normal weight his will improve his condition as well.

14-05-10 - I am updating the blog to inform everyone of the situation with the national park, animal rescue as I have said before is extremely stressful and this ongoing issue with the planning application is causing us more stress! But we want everyone to know that our committment to the animals and the rescue has never been stronger. Due to conditions not put in the original application that lowered our chances of getting approval from the National Park, we followed advise of our planning consultant and withdrew the application and immediately started the process of resubmitting another. This will increase our chances of getting the go ahead and we feel confident now that this will happen. We apoligise that the emails and letters sent out by the National Park make it sound as if we have withdrawn and given up, but please be assured this could be not further from the truth. We will fight for the right of these animals every inch of the way to ensure they will know that a safe haven exists! We would like to Thank everyone that has supported us in the fight to continue and that your letter/emails of support will be carried over to the next application. We will continue to be the voice of the voiceless!

Right now back to the more important stuff THE ANIMALS! Today saw the arrival of Ozzie the Dobermann, what a sweet boy, as some of you maybe aware Llanelli Dogs Home is closing and the dogs there have a very unsure fate. We where asked if we would help with some and Ozzie is the first, I met Ozzie a week ago when I visited the dogs home and it was apparent that Ozzie had a problem with his legs/hips but this had not been investigated. He came to the rescue today and appeared very sullen, after a walk and good hour with him in our dog run he seemed happier so then came the trip to our vets. I prayed it would be nothing too serious and after a good examination our vet diagnosed Lumber Sacral Disease, it is known in Dobermanns and is when extra bone growth on the spine presses on the nerves and discs causing this effect on the legs. Ozzie now needs xrays to see the severity of the condition and life long medication. But there is no reason why if managed properly with medication he cannot live a happy normal life.  Dispite being in obvious discomfort he is still a gentleman and a very sweet dog I will keep you updated on his progress and I pray someone will find it in there heart and soul to love him. I refuse to give up on a life just because its an expense or an inconvienience after a pretty horrible life so far he deserves a better future. Please see Ozzies listing to get more details.

08-05-10 - I write this update with very mixed emotions today, anyone involved in rescue and I mean daily involvement the 24/7, 365 days a year rescue, will know that this is not a hobby, hobbies are enjoyable animal rescue is very often not enjoyable! I pray for the day we are not needed and all animals are cared for properly and FOREVER! But before I spill out all the stuff that will leave you heavy hearted I would like to announce Misty has found a home today this was the positive part of the day we wish her well and thank her adopters very much. Right back to it, as we all know Britian has a huge problem with unwanted animals and in particular dogs - some facts from 2008-2009 Britians incidences of stray dogs increased by 11% (from 96,892 to 107,228) and stray dogs euthanised rose from 6,710 in 2008 to 9,310 in 2009. This is very alarming we have huge huge numbers of animals dying just because there are not enough homes but what can be done? Well at Green Acres we have always advocated neutering this is a must to prevent more unwanted animals being born, there are numerous schemes available to pet owners to help with neutering please please get in touch if you want more information. As you read this 100s and 100s of stray dogs will sit in council pounds waiting to be claimed, but the sad fact is most of these poor souls never will be claimed and will face death on monday. Who sould feel guilty for this? The people who bred the dog creating more lives? The faceless and nameless people who have callously left their pet there to be murdered? Or the rescues like us that work day after day triyng to save as many lives as possible. I honestly believe it should be the first two but unfortunately we are the ones lying awake at night trying to come up with solutions to save more. This is not the only problem, it is apparent that there are two types of owners that give up their dogs to, the first are the people that are 100% genuine and for some reason which has been out of their control and they have to give their dog up,  these are the people that have tried every other avenue before approaching a rescue, they are very upset on leaving the dog and very often offer to pay to cover any costs while we look to rehome their dog. Then there is the second the people that only see dog ownership as this lovely ideal world and then go get a puppy/dog not having a clue what is involved in responsible dog ownership then once they come up against a problem they decide the dog must go often using excuses used by genuine people such as 'I have lost my house' or 'my child is allergic'. Then follows 'oh well if you cant take him today we will have to have him destroyed' instantly knowing we will move heaven and earth to save the dog but this emotional blackmail is unfair! We need to ALL work together, the more we do the more we will achieve, please please we can all do more get in touch and see what you can do to help these animals. We desperately need funds to increase our advertising, if people dont know about us we do not home dogs, can you help with this? I am sorry for a long babbling blog that seems quite negative but thats how it is at the moment.

Another story - Yesterday we came to the rescue of Sindy a very pregnant female tabby cat, her owner has had to go into hospital so thanks to Mair (our newest fosterer) we have given her a safe home where she will have her babies please keep a look on the cats and kittens page for regular updates.  **This also means we will be again going through large amounts of cat/kitten food. Please if you can donate any please drop of at our charity shop at 95 Charles Street Milford Haven**

29-04-10 - Some GOOD NEWS at last Jack and Russell, Chester and Pip all have been with us way to long have all been offered homes, I pray and hope this will be their forever homes and they know what love is now! Times like this where animals are now happy again and in good loving homes make the day to day stresses all worth it. And it proves that there is a home out there for every animal just sometimes takes a while to match it up. I also have another request, as some of you know we have 2 charity shops in Milford Haven, both are open Mon - Sat 10am - 4pm, we are looking for volunteers particualrly on Saturdays but anyday would help the shift are split into 10am-1pm and 1pm-4pm could you spare a few hours a week? If you think you could please call into the shop or call Georgie on 07976904315 this would be a great help. Thank you to everyone who volunteers at the shop already we could not run without your huge support.

25-04-10 - Firstly a big thank you to everyone that responded to our appeal for bric-a-brac and items off our wish list we really where in desperate need, please keep them coming, with up to 10 or more sometimes dogs in at one time they go through the food very quickly.  I have now emailed a list of dog food companies to see if we can get sponsorship we would need around 8 sacks of dog food a month and 1 sack of cat food. Obviousy as we expand we will need more but this is approx what we use at the moment. If we could get this it would be great especially a good quality food like Burns, the dogs would benefit as there food would not change and the sponsoring company would benefit from the advertising.  Most of the kittens have gone to their new homes now those 8 weeks have gone really fast I am sure the foserers wont agree tho! Lets all hope they all go on to have long happy lives. We eventually have some interest in Jack and Russell these poor boys have been waiting too long so hopefully within a few days they will be in there new home.  This week we will launch our Bull Breed Neutering scheme, it will be open to people who are on benefits and low incomes if you have a Staffie, Mastiff, American Bulldog, English Bull Terrier, similar breed of crosses of any of these breeds and your dog is not neutered and would like some help please get in touch, [email is prefered], We have teamed up with the Dogs Trust and Pembrokeshire County Council Dog Wardens to help tackle the problem of to many dogs being born. We are limited to how many we can do and is on a first come first served basis so please get in touch early!

23-04-10 - As most of you probably know we run the two charity shops in Charles Street Milford Haven, these are our main source of income and wthout these we would not be able to manage, at present we are in need of good quality Bric-a-Brac to sell if you have any please drop off at 95 Charles Street Milford Haven [opposite Todaros hairdressers], we are also in desperate need of wet and dry dog/cat/kitten food, bleach and disinfectant this to can also be donated at the shop. Thank you for your ongoing support ourselves an the animals really appricieate it. You will be glad to know that Crystal is feeling much better and will be going off to her new home shortly.  Jack and Russell have a ray of light as someone is coming to see them on the weekend, I really really hope it works they have been here far to long, as has smokey hes a fantastic dog that would make an ideal pet. And the more we home the more we save, can anyone help with avertising? posters? if you can please get in touch. Summer is coming which means carnivals/shows/events would anyone like to organise stalls at any? if so again get in touch. The calls keep coming for animals in need but without your support we cannot grow to save more.  Going back to Smokey I want to say something about the myths that surround greyhounds alot of people say that they need huge amounts of exercise this is not true, they are built for speed not stamina 2 x 20 walks a day with some free running exercice and they are more than happy. They are excellent with children very calm and gentle. They are often called 40mph couch potato they love nothing more than to sleep on the sofa! So if you are looking for a dog and never considered a greyhound before then please do, research online there  attributes and I am sure you will find they all say the same. Go on make Smokeys future bright!

14-04-10 - Just a quick update, well the lovely Lexi the dalmatian pup went to her new home yesterday with another Dalmatian called Prunes, shes really fallen on her feet and I am so pleased. Jack and Russell enjoyed a day at the beach on Tuesday and they really behaved themselves I have made them their own page to highlight their need of a good home, such a shame that 2 sweet young dogs are stuck behind bars they are a Jack Russell lover's dream.  Rescue is a hard thing to be involved in at times and very much controls your every thought, no sooner as you wave one animal off praying it is now going to have a fabulous new life forever there is another that needs saving but thats why we do what we do and the small few minutes of happiness the pictures and emails from happy owners out weigh the hours of heartache. It amazes me what people do to animals they are defenseless yet people still see them as disposable - its a real heartbreaking shame. Poor Crystal has been off her food for a few days so was checked over by our vet today but had nothing obviously wrong with her so she has given her an injection to hopefully increase appetite, we pray she improves she needs her strength to rear her brood of 4 5wk old kittens.

10-04-10 - Well today we had some news from the National Park as they are still waiting for some information from the Council they cannot make a decision at the April meeting so it will now be made in May  this means another month of waiting and another month of uncertainty, but it does mean another month that we can prove just how many people are behind us. So please if you havent emailed yet then please please do so soon. Your one email can make all the difference.  This week with the weather being so nice we have been getting alot of use of our new dog run, the dogs love it and are much happier. I have added a few pictures for you all to see. Today I was thinking what can I add in the blog tonight and I thought I would would write a bit about Chester this poor dog breaks my heart, everyday he waits in his concrete cell waiting for a second chance. Hes a lovely dog a true gentle giant loves people and great with kids, he is desperate for his second chance, he walks well on a lead and I know hes big but please dont let this put you off this fantastic boy!  We also have 5 people organising a Sky Dive for May 21st there is a page on site so please please sponsor them on this death defying event. Here are some photos of dogs enjoying the run and the stunning Chester.

08-04-10 - Big Thank you to everyone who has emailed the National Park Authority so far but we are now getting closer and closer to recieving an answer, so if you havent sent an email of support yet PLEASE do so as every one counts, we must continue to be able to save lives, 5 mins of your time could help us stay open!  We are very busy as usual at Green Acres every kennel full every fosterer full and still lists and lists of animals to help, we can only physically do so much with time and money holding us back. At present Fosterers and Fundraisers we are in desperate need of, fosterers free up kennels by accepting dogs into their homes which means we can take in more. Fundraisers allow us to have the funds to help more. If you can do either please please get in touch.  On the cat front alot of our kittens have been reserved and both mummy cats have been offered homes so if you are looking for well balanced, healthly kittens please get intouch soon as we only have 2 black and white boys left.  At the rescue we have for a long time wanted a secure dog run to allow the dogs to have free running exercise in a safe environment, this week we achieved this and the dogs love it! Big Thank you to John and Margaret who not only helped us build the dog run but also have given a few hours every day of there easter holidays in Pembs walking and keeping our dogs happy. Thank you to you both and hope to see you again soon.  We have lots of ideas for Green Acres for 2010 one of which is a neutering scheme which we have confirmed with Dogs Trust and working with Pembrokeshire County Council Dog Warden Sally Bland, will be open to people on benefits that own Bull breeds (Staffordshire Bull Terriers, English Bull Terriers, Bull Mastiffs, Bulldogs, Boxers, American Bulldogs and said breed crosses) we are hoping to have this up and running by the end of month.  In 2009 over 9000 dogs had to be destroyed as there was not enough homes, by neutering we can stop adding to these numbers,  If every female dog was allowed to breed and her off spring allowed to breed too one bitch can be responsible for 20-40,000 lives in her lifetime. Please do the right thing and get your animals neutered. I am sure plenty of people read this blog so if you read this set yourself a challenge! Are you up to it? Try and do one thing to help an animal in our care this week. Whether that be help orgainse a fundraiser, foster a dog, come and walk our poor animals, donate some money online, advertise some of our dogs either online or make and put up some posters GO ON see what you can achieve!!

03-04-10 - Sorry the updates for the blog have been slow but I want to keep the email to National Park high up so everyone keeps seeing it, Thanks to everyone who has already emailed the if you havent done so yet PLEASE PLEASE DO, it is vital in keeping Green Acres open. Look below for details and sample email. Right what else is happening, well our Bingo night was another success with everyone enjoying a good night out and we raised £414.60. thanks to everyone who helped out or donated prizes. Also yesterday one of our longtermers Leo the collie was adopted I pray and pray it works out. As one week ends and some dogs have been lucky to find happiness this coming week will bring more needing help. Please keep the emails to the National Park coming tell everyone that will listen. Are you on facebook? thats a great platform to spread the word, we will know by 21st April and need as many people to email by then as possible. All the details and template email below. It will take 2 mins please help us to stay open and save more lives.

24-03-10 - At Green Acres we cannot thank all the people enough that have emailed the National Park saying they support us, but we need to keep them coming so pleas keep spreading the word. The more the better. We have quite alot of dogs in at the moment, poor Jack and Russell who need a home together as they are so attatched to each other and Poor Leo who sits and waits but no body ever comes. Please keep these poor souls in your prayers and hopefully they will be answered soon.

19-03-10 - As most of you are probably aware we are having to apply for retrospective planning permission  with the National Park, and worse case is that we may need to close! We need to stop this! Please I beg you to send an email to Vicki Hurst who is the principle planning officer at the National Park expressing your support for our rescue. Following is an email you can copy and paste but if you have time please write your own, and if possible include your name and address to add authenticity to the email.

Dear Madam,

I write in reference to a planning application recently submitted by Mrs S Kimpson for Green Acres Animal Rescue Ref No : NP/10/064.
I would just like to express my full support for this facility not only are they commited to rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of animals in need, they are a service to the Pembrokeshire public for people who find themselves unable to care for thier animals anymore, and also they are involved in education on animal welfare issues and appropriate care. It would be an awful shame if Green Acres had to close as where would the dogs and other animals go? Please consider mine and I am sure many others opinions and allow this fantastic facility to continue.

Please then add your name and address.
Please send this to
DC@pembrokeshirecoast.org.uk

Please do this and ask all your friends to either copy and pasting the above message your sending your own version, but if you do this please qoute ref no: NP/10/064

Please find it in your hearts to take 5 mins to do this, we give everyday to these poor animals when nobody else will 5 mins of your time could mean we can continue.
Thank you so much and please spread the word send to everyone you can, post on your wall/status/groups/websites/blogs anywhere it will be seen.

Thank you again.

18-03-10 - Quick update on fundraisers. Bingo is booked Royal British Legion Milford Haven, on 30th March 2010. But we are in need to bottles of wine, spirits, vouchers and raffle prizes if you can help with these please get in touch, the less we have to spend the more money is made to spend on the animals. Natalie, Marie, Trudi, Ruth and Jeff are organising a sky dive in May more details to follow.  We are not doing to bad with homing now our adverts are back in the Telegraph but we still have the issue of the planning application with the National Park. As soon as we know more we will update immediately. It shocks me that a group of people can make a decision that could mean we would have to close and in turn 100's of animals would needlessly die! Sure that is not morally right??   We are desperately looking for someone to organise fundraisers for us, PLEASE only offer if you are committed to do it as on numerous occasions people offer to oganise something or have a brilliant idea for raising funds but very very rarely does it materialise and they are left to us. If someone could organise a bag pack at Morrisons or maybe a collection there?? Sponsored Walk?? Street Collection?? The animals take up so much time we do not have 6 hours spare to orgainse such things.

13-03-10 - Sorry updates have been slow but we have been extremely busy, kitten season has begun and we already have 2 mums with babies, Crystal is with Georgie and she has had 4 babies and Topaz is with Ange and she has 5 babies all are looking for homes and we can reserve them so as soon as they are weaned they can go to there FOREVER homes. Please dont forget the mums once the kittens are weaned they too will be needing homes. Adult cats very often get over looked when there are kittens about. We also have 2 stunning Golden Persians looking for there second chance too. On the dog front it is still busy with a constant supply from council pounds these always have and always will be our priority as once there 7 days is up they can face death. And the majority are healthy happy dogs. We are still in need of food donations so please help if you can and we also have an Easter Bingo planned for 30th March, and we are in need of prizes i.e. wine, spirits or vouchers. If you have any you would like to donate please get in touch. A Brilliant thing happened today though Duke our staffie x was given his chance of happiness and went off to his new home I pray to the angels that he will be happy. Leo is still searching and the more he is in kennels the more stressed he becomes he ideally needs a 1-1 foster carer to help him adjust.

As I am sure most of you will have seen in the local papers we have had to submit a planning application for change of use at Green Acres to continue with our rescue work, this has now been done and we await the National Parks decision, if we are declined it is possible that we will have to close, this would be a terrible thing, there are not many people that are willing to dedicate the time, money and effort it takes to have these animals. I pray and hope that they will see what is morally right and allow us to continue, as we are the only animal rescue centre in Pembrokeshire without us many animals will die!! Thank you for everyone that has expressed there support and should we need you to do anything we will let you know, I hope you will all be behind us 100% to fight for the ones that cannot fight/speak for themselves.

We have also sorted out our problem with complaints being recieved by the Westeren Telegraph and now have to pay for our ads, I would like to let the people know who are responsible for this that not only now do we have less funds to help animals but never once have we ever made a personal financial gain from the rescue and anyone that works in rescue will know there is more going out than ever comes in. We do what we do purely for the love of the dogs can the same be said for the people who are very quick to judge!!

10-03-10 - A quick update on our pregnant cat, Crystal had 4 gorgeous babies at 11.30pm last night, pics will be on site soon. All doing well

24-02-10 - Sorry the blog has not been updated recently but between being very busy, our website being down and having problems with a computer virus it just has not been possible. Firstly a big thank you to Ben Evans from Dog Behaviour Ltd for coming to the rescue on weekend and working with some of the dogs. Pictures below of all the dogs playing happily together. Another week of endless calls we saved an american bulldog from the pound today a lovely big boy, but he has an injury to his ear and is underweight yet another searching for happiness, hopefully he is now on the right road. We also have had an influx of cats including a pregnant female cat & a mother cat with 5 babies one day old!! so we are now desperate for cat and kitten food as well as cat litter if you could find it in your heart then please buy some and donate. It can be left at our charity shop at 95 Charles St Milford Haven, or the following pet shops.

Pets Ahead Milford Haven.

Scales and Tails, Charles St Milford Haven.

Penfro Pets, Gordon St Pembroke Dock

Dew St Petshop Haverfordwest.

14-02-10 - What a week! It has been a very hectic and draining week, at Green Acres we have to have a limit on the amount of dogs we have at the rescue to ensure we can look after them all correctly. This is in place for the dogs as much as us, but the general public do not seem to understand this, still daily we have calls from members of the public that want to rehome their dogs and when we say sorry we are full at the moment but we will help once a space becomes available this is not good enough. Just because we care enough to save animals lives does not mean we are here to jump everytime an animals owner becomes bored of their pet. We also explain that dogs that are in the pound have seven days and then face being put to sleep so these recieve priority, but this too falls on deaf ears, and on one occasion this week it was responded to by a lady saying I DONT CARE! Well its a good job we do!

We also have had a few dogs returned lately people just dont want to seem to work at things, animals very rarely come problem free and perfect so please only take on an animal if you are willing to work at the problems and take on a life long committment. Ok moan over, this week patch and lucky went to their new homes and we also homed 2 kittens.

We have an urgent appeal for fosterers at the moment as we dont have any dogs in foster at the moment and need to make space to save more lives, I am also about to send out an email campaign to revamp our advertising we need to think of ways we can spread the word of the plight of the Green Acres animals if you have any ideas please get in touch. Posters, mags, newspapers, radio stations anything.

Here are some pictures of Jack and Macy 2 very special dogs needing to find the person that will love them FOREVER!

06-02-10  Please have a look at our kittens & cats as well, we can't take many in as we have only 2 foster homes, 1 can take a very small number of adults & the other kittens. They are all lovely & desperate for a lap to call their own, & already in their short lives 2 of them have had a rotten time. Can you give them their 2nd chance?

05-02-10 - Today has been a day of mixed emotions Sammy and Charlie went in to be castrated and they both had offers of homes, Sammy being adopted today and Charlie hopefully becoming a Cardiff boy on sunday so while they where going through the procedure at vets, we spent some time with the dogs exercising, playing and generally trying to make their lives that little bit better. Here are some of the pictures, Duke loved the jumps and Leo enjoyed playing around with us in the office, both are people dogs and love nothing more than to be with you.

After spending a few hours enjoying the fairly good weather and entertaining the dogs, it was time to pick the boys up from the vets, while there I was going to get Rivers the Westie checked over. It breaks my heart to see dogs like this, on his arrival we could see he had been neglected but it wasnt until the grooming started we realised the extent, he has an ongoing skin problem which has been untreated and made worse by lack of grooming, he is in need of a serious dental, his paws are infected as his dew claws had grown full circle and peirced back into his pads. 2.5 hours of grooming produced a dog which was obviously given a new lease of life with his new hair cut. But after a consultation he left with eye drops, ear drops, special shampoo to control his skin condition and an appointment to have a full dental. This poor boy has suffered in silence for years yet still wags his tail and greet you happily. Rivers is obviously more forgiving than me.

Rivers new adopters will have to realise his skin will only ever be managed and never cured, it is just about reducing the irritation and making his life comfortable. Pictures below are from before and after the grooming process Thank you to Keri's K9 Kuts who gave up her evening off to make Rivers more presentable.

02-02-10 - Yesterday and today have left us all very low, yesterday brought a call from our local pound that 3 dogs needed to come in, we managed after juggling dogs into foster to take these and they arrived today. Not long after another call came and we heard the plight of a rottie girl Lola that was about to be put to sleep as her time was up in the pound she was in. What do we do? we are full but after lying awake and going trough all the options we managed to work with some other rescues and some dog saviours and save her life. She is now safe and will come to us once there is room. Day after day the calls keep coming and they always start with Do you take dogs? or I need to rehome my dog! Everyone has a different reason but everyone has a by product which will be the poor dog that is about to have its life turned upside down. We are only a very small rescue and we have to give priority to dogs that are in immediate danger but this does not mean we leave every night with heavy heart at all the ones we cannot take straight away. Will they be ok? Will they wait till there is space?

But how can we ALL do things to help - well ones thing is neutering! We all know there are just to many dogs and numbers need to be reduced, every dog that comes into the care of Green Acres is neutered if not already so, but we can all do something to help this. Is your dog neutered? If not then please get it done. Do you know someone with an unneutered dog if so then please tell them of the beneifits of having this done. This not only prevents unwanted litters but there are also health benefits that your vet will happily explain this if you enquire. There are also schemes available to people on means tested benefits please get in touch if you want more details.

I hate to moan, but I think you all should know the uphill struggle that is animal rescue and how depressed we all get, there are always to many to physically help, another phone call needing help another dog thats due to die. Please help us in anyway possible and bring a little light to a dark time.

31-01-10 - Sorry its  been a bit slow on the blog updates but we have been extremely busy at the rescue today saw the completion of the kennels revamp, we have had the 4 original kennels done up so they are better for the dogs and us. We have some lovely dogs in at the moment so if you are looking for a family pet please get in touch as I am sure they will not be with us long.

15-01-10 - Today is one of those days where a tiny bit of my faith in human nature is restored, Mr and Mrs Roderick of Stepaside, Pembs recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary and instead of recieving gifts they asked for donations to Green Acres, and we recieved the cheque today. Many thanks to you both and it just proves there are some caring people out there. We are still campaigning to find Honey that special home I hope and pray it will come soon but is so much in the hands of fate, Please Please advertise Honey where ever you can posters, are available via email attachment so please get in touch if you can help.

Please have a look at our kittens page as well, 2 poor babies were found curled up in the snow nearly frozen, & Mau was shot near his eye, they really need loving homes after such miserable starts to their lives

14-01-10 - We are going to try and write a daily or at least every few days blog to keep all our webwatchers up to date on what goes on at Green Acres and also give you a feel what an up hill struggle rescue is the majority of the time.  Well thankfully the weather has improved, the cold icey and snowy weather was causing havoc at the rescue all of our water supply was frozen, horses had to stay in, but with the weather slightly better, it has improved but not after the dogs really enjoyed the snow!

Pics are Buddy and Max enjoying ball in the snow (Max now homed) and Snow at the rescue.

We currently still have Honey in our care and she is looking for her forever home, she needs a very understanding and 'dog savvi' home to blossom into the loving pet that is there waiting to come out we have recently done a big email campaign for her, is there anywhere you think you could advertise Honey? She needs all the publicity she can get PLEASE HELP HER.  Max the dog that was left at very to be destroyed at the vets has now gone to his loving new home where I know he will be happy for the rest of his life. While at the vets collecting Max 2 stunning little kittens where brought in the had been found out in the snow sleeping curled up trying there best to keep warm, these poor boys are approx 12 weeks old and would have died if they had been out over night. These are now in foster and on the cats and kittens page. Rescue is a hard and heart breaking job 75% of the time, we have endless calls asking for help in all sorts of situatons but we can only help the ones we physically have time and space for. Please say a prayer for those poor animals we have never heard of and lost their lives in vain and lets hope that if we work together in 2010 we can save even more!

Here are some more pics taken at Green Acres Animal Rescue

11th Oct

Well folks, Green acres is VERY pleased to announce that we are taking over as from tomorrow, two charity shops in Milford Haven. They were run by Milford Haven animal welfare, but Joan, after many years of dedication to animals has decided to retire, & we wish her all the best.

This now means that we hopefully will have a more reliable source of income for the rescue, & as the shops are run entirely by volunteers, it should make a massive difference, & will make our jobs of looking after the animals so much easier.

So...if you have anything that we could sell, please drop it off at the shops, 93 & 95 Charles st  Milford, we'll be delighted to see you

Joey has gone to his new family today so good luck to him, he is a lovely boy.

Not a happy ending for a lovely little kitten we had brought to us a week ago, he was so poorly that he lost his fight for life today, this is the worst part of animal rescue.

Pets Ahead in Milford & Scales & Tails pet shop also Milford will take them for us. Please identify them as working - non working as well. Thanks.

Poor Kai is back with us, he is the loveliest of dogs, but he needs the right home. This breed of dog is only for the experienced. He is on the adopotion page. Sam & Bracken are improving, but it will take time with them both, they are great little boys, & I'm pleased to say that Chico is definately getting better, he is now in foster with Jan & being spoilt rotten, which is just what he needs.

28th July

We all find being involved in a rescue heartbreaking at times, some definately worse than others. The 2 collie's that have come in are beautiful boys. still only babies but humans have let them down so badly. They have perked up since they came in but it is going to be  ongoing to get them to realise that some people do care. Bracken has come on quite a lot, but poor Sam is in need of so much TLC, we will do all we can to make sure they get the best life we can give them.  2 more dogs came in 2day, a sweet little collie/terrier mix who's family have a child that's developed an allergy to him, & a boxer x who has had quite a rough time, but is still a very friendly boy.  Chico is now in foster with Jan & is much happier now

16th July

Not a bad week,Bo Kaz Muffin & Mya have gone to new homes & hopefully Archie is off tomorrow. Sam & Lilly have been here longer than we hoped, we did hope they would go together but if it's a choice between a home each or staying in kennels then they will be far happier going seperately. Please have a look at them & Axle, he is such a good boy, & all he needs is is the help of another confident dog & he will blossom. This is what happened with Bo, she was a nervous wreck, but with the help of her new owner & a lovely collie she is now a completely changed & very happy girl.

11th July  OPEN DAY

18th June

There seems to be a growing list of dogs that need our help but we are limited to what we can do. Thank the lord for Jennie our fosterer she has been amazing! She not only took in a Jack Russell and found it a home on top of the ones she already had but has also hopefully found a home for Maggie, watchers of the site will remember Maggie as the poor abused and emaciated staffy that came from the pound. She now is (thanks to jennies tlc and home cooking) a fab and healthy dog.

SPONSORED WALK ON SUNDAY FOR ALL ATTENDING. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND WHY NOT MAKE A DONATION VIA THE SITE, NO AMOUNT IS TO SMALL.

15th June

Sorry folks, the blog has been a bit slow, but the dogs haven't! All the dogs in the last blogs have new homes but they have been rapidly replaced by more. We have 2 lovely collie's in from the pound today, Fly is a collie x Dalmation he has a lovely spotty dog face.  Tango is only a pup still & very handsome. Harry is fine Lab, & poor little Patch is a sweetie but has had a terrible start to her short life. Maggie, I'm pleased to say is doing amazingly well, she is like a different dog from  the poor sad girl that arrived here in early May. Pics & more info on the adoption page.

Sponsored walk next Sunday !! Please start praying for a nice day.

20th May

Well it goes from one extreme to the other, we had a quiet spell, nearly all the dogs had been rehomed & then it goes mad again!  Cesar has come in from the pound, he had about an hour left on this earth when we got him & he is a lovely boy. Axle & Eddie came in together & the  most beautiful Samoyeds, Alaw & LLew, their owners circumstances had changed so they could no longer give them the care they needed. More details as we get to know them, pics are on the adoption page.

We also have  forms available for our sponsored walk on June 21st, please get in touch if you are interested.

12th May

I think Sunday was a fine dogs day out!  I know Jessie had a great time & now has a stack of rosettes to show off. Many thanks to all concerned.

But the best news has to be Tyler getting his forever home, he is a smashing dog, overlooked so many times but that tail never stopped wagging. We wish him a long & happy life.

1st April

A rollercoaster week, good news is Norman has found a lovely home & hopefully Pammie has as well, she had a visit to the vet as her eyes were causing us some concern, but it seems to be a problem that she was probably born with, & she copes well with it. We have 2 more dogs coming in from the pound tomorrow, details as soon as we can.           But on a sad note, poor Clio has been put to sleep. This is heartbreaking as she was such a sweet little girl. She came to us in a very thin condition & seemed to pick up but then lost weight & had problems with her breathing. The vet found that she had lung cancer & the kindest & only option was to cause her no more distress. This decision was made because there was no hope of recovery for her.

27th March

This week has seen 3 new arrivals, Skip a collie x lab, Norman a JR & Pam a lovely cocker spaniel, Pam & Norman have come in from the pound, so were saved from death row. Please have a look & is there no one out there that can help Tyler & Clio? They really need their 2nd chance.

22nd March

We have confirmed the date for our Easter Bingo, it will be 7th April at the British Legion in Milford Haven, doors open 7pm & eyes down at 7.30

18th March

The best news yet today...Ben has gone of to Brighton to start his new life after far too long with us.

17th March

For those of you interested in Heidi's progress, this link is Rachels daily blog on her, it brought tears to my eyes!

http://www.mekuti.co.uk/heidi/

16th March

Heidi is making good progress bless her.

13th March

Painful progress for Heidi, but Rachel has said       'Heidi has had about half a tin of food in small doses through the afternoon and is drinking too. She looked haggard this morning on her return from the vets, but has been doing well since'

12th March

Just a quick update on Heidi, the little collie. She had her operation this morning & has come through so far, we will pass on any more news as we get it.

10th March

A lovely little collie X came in today, she is an absolute sweetie & is here because one of her family has developed an alergy. Jet really deserves a lovely new home & lots of TLC. She's only 13 weeks old, but please remember that collies need an active home as they are very inteligent dogs.

7th March

A bit of a dramatic week this week, while Jessie 2 has found her forever home, we had a major shock when 1 of the dogs fell ill & has had to have surgery with a week on a drip & syringe feeding.  Poor boy had intestinal problems (not infectious thank goodness) but he is now hopefully well on the road to recovery, the down side is it has cost a small fortune in vet bills, so we are now going to have to fund raise like there is no tomorrow. We are organising an Easter Bingo event for 7th April, & we are holding an Alphabet raffle, so if anyone can help by taking some sheets to sell please get in touch.

2nd March

This week has been very quiet, but we did have a visit on Sunday from Ben, who is a dog behaviorist. He works miracles. He had short sessions with several dogs & as usual, left us all amazed. Thanks Ben. His site is  www.standupforlife.webs.com  well worth a visit

22nd Feb

Not a bad few days here, Kai Dylan William & Lucy have all been given their second chance. Sweet little Princess has found her forever home as well.

14th Feb

Today has seen more arrivals at Green Acres, Kai a 2 and half yr old Huskamute, and Lady a middle aged collie that came from pound after her 7 days, both very nice dogs, Big thanks to Ellie and Jane who collected Lady from the pound and saved her.

11th Feb

We collected 2 beautiful Labradors today, Lucy & Jessie, their owners circumstances have forced them into getting them rehomed, a very sad day. They are a lovely pair of girls & with luck they will soon get their 2nd chance.

9th Feb

Beautiful Betty has found her happy place today, good luck girlie.

7th Feb

Buddy William & Dixie have found their forever homes this weekend, it really does give us a warm happy feeling to see these dogs go off happy when they so often come in neglected & miserable. Ben is the poor boy we are really hoping will get his 2nd chance soon. He has been here too long, kennels are really not the place for dogs to stay in long term & he is in desperate need of some TLC, please have a look at him on the adoption page, is there a space in your heart for him??

5th Feb

Green acres is in the paper this week, the Mecury has kindly run an article about our Van appeal, so it should be a great help.

4th Feb

Another 3 dogs came in from the pound today, a brindle lurcher boy, who is painfully thin, GSD X girl, only about 6 months old & very timid, a terrier X spaniel girl,  with luck it won't be long until they get their 2nd chance.

3rd Feb

Jasper has gone to his forever home, despite the snow!

Found in the freshwater east area, silver female tabby cat approx 2 years old, very friendly and affectionate has a distinctive old injury on ear.

Please contact Michelle on 07765226772 between 9am-5pm.

1st Feb

Stell, Della & Milo have been given their 2nd chance, & are hopefully now in their forever homes. Please look at the adoption page, these dogs are still waiting, there has to be a loving home for them, maybe it's yours?

28th Jan

We held our first 'supporters of Green Acres' meeting in the Trafalgar Pub, Milford Haven. We would like to Thank Steph, Matt, Keri, Margaret, Ellie, Karen and Evelyn for attending. we felt it was very productive and we have decided now that we will meet once a month to dicuss what we have planned for the next month. We have decided that we are going to hold an alphabet raffle and Easter Bingo so please if you can help with either of these please get in touch. We will be holding our next meeting on the 4th of March.

27th Jan

Today we have 2 Jack Russells arrive from the pound, very sweet natured dogs that are looking for there new begining???!!  We also took in a lovely 4th mth old staff called Milo. All these dogs are fantastic please give them a chance if u can.

26th Jan

A good weekend, Spencer, Lynx  & Jack have gone to new homes.

23rd Jan

We have just taken in Dixie, a beautiful lurcher, saved from the pound on her last hour, she is a lovely girl, runs like the wind, good on recall, & seems a happy good natured dog, pics on adoption page. Spencer may have his 2nd chance today, so we are hopefull.

20th Jan

3 more dogs in from the pound, saved from death row, they are all lovely dogs, & seem to be a good natured lot, so fingers x'd they will all get their 2nd chance soon.  Lucky has got his new start & we wish him & his new family well.

16th Jan

Tim has finally found his happy space, he is such a lovely dog he really does deserve his 2nd chance, & hopefully Lucky & Lynx will be adopted soon. Not so good for poor Dylan though, he will be back with us at the weekend, he is such a cutie & has had more than his share of bad luck, with the right owners he will be a fantastic pet. Princess, the kitten returned to us is hoping she will find her new lap soon, she is a gorgeous girl.

13th Jan

Not such a good day as we have taken back a kitten that we rehomed a while ago, not through any fault of the kitten, but because her owner lost 2 cats to posioning over the last 2 months & she does not want the same to happen to Princess, so she made this hard choice for the safety of Princess, please have a look at the kitten page for more info.

Lucky has had his operation to be neutered so he is now ready for a new home, he is such a sweet boy.

11th Jan

Today Suki's day of a new life came and she was successfully adopted, it was lovely to see a healthy and happy dog going to a new home compared to the very quiet and underweight dog that arrived from the pound. We also had 2 arrivals today 2 goats Hetty and Toffee, their owner could no longer care for them so they have come to join the Green Acres crew. We will have pics shortly once they have settled in.

10th Jan

Pinkie has gone to his new home with Isla & a lovely lady greyhound to be his big sister. Tim & Suki have potential new homes so we have everything crossed for them, they so need a place to call their own.

Bruce has just come to us from the pound, he was due to be destroyed. He seems to be a lovely dog, good natured, not too bad on the lead & ok with other dogs, only young so he has the potential to be a smashing family pet.

8th Jan

Such a good day, Joey has gone to his new home & Pinkie will hopefully be going soon, he & Suki are going to be neutered tomorrow & Pinkie should then be off to his new family. Brilliant!

6th Jan

Sorry we've been a bit quiet on the blog over Christmas, but the rescue has been non stop, as fast as a dog is re homed another comes in.

We have had more dogs in from the pound, & we have a few that have been with us for too long, Joey, Tim & Suki are are desperate for their 2nd chance & a kennel is no substitute for a nice cosy lap or sofa!  Please have another look at our dogs for adoption, is there no one there that could fill a space in your heart?

On a more positive note the 2 kitties that had such a bad start, Shadow & Fizz have got their forever home. It is such a good feeling when these animals come to us in such a state & after however long it takes (with these 2 it was a while) they are fit, healthy, & off 2 a happy home.

The Christmas Fayre we held was a great success, loads of donations, lovely cakes & a brilliant Father Christmas made sure ot that.  So again, many thanks to everyone that helped, donated, or turned up, hope to see you at the next one.

3rd December

Another dogs 7 days up today. Ben is a very loving medium size heinz 57, he's only young and would make an ideal family pet. At green acres we strongly advise getting your pets neutered to stop more unwanted animals being produced and also getting them microchipped so if they do end up in the pound they can trace you to reunite you with your dog. So many dogs face destruction every year in council pounds please lets all make an effort to reduce this number! We are now bursting at the seams could you foster a dog?? We are looking for short term homes to look after our rescues until they find their forever home.  If you feel this is something you can help with please get in touch.

With the amount of animals increasing by the day we also have less time to organise fundraising events, if you feel this is something you could do please get in touch, it could be anything sponsored swim to a raffle. Please get in touch if you can help!!

2 December

Today Ellie collected Marley the Black Labrador from the pound his 7 days were up and he needed a space in rescue so we took him, he is very lively and friendly boy who needs an active family. Thanks again Ellie dont know what we'd do without you.

30th December

Dylan was taken in today, he's a 13wk old Collie pup that the owners could not cope with, a lot of consideration should go into getting a puppy especially a breed like a collie that are very active physically and mentally. Ellie has very kindly fostered Dylan for us to give him the well socialised start he needs, many thanks to Ellie and Dave. Not forgetting Morgan, Sam and Hattie!!!

29th November

Great news today Charlie the Lab x has gone to her new home we wish her all the best, lets hope this is her forever home and she is happy for the rest of her life, i know she will love playing footie in the garden with the children.

28th November

Today we collected another 2 dogs from the pound and i still cant believe how some people treat their animals, first was a Saluki x who has been christened Sasha, she's very underweight with until she got to pound had an untreated skin condition, and second was a very small staffie x, she has been severely neglected, she is very underweight a very pitiful sight. She will now recieve the love and care shes needs to become a loving member of someones family. Please help us to continue to save these lives remember every penny counts!!

27th Novemeber

Many thanks to Ellie who collected Joey a collie x husky today from the local pound, it amazes me how much we live in a disposable society Joey was handed into pound as his owner did not have time for him anymore and hadn't been walked for over 2 mths. So he know joins the green acres crew to find another forever home.

25th November

Today we had a lovely visit from Many Tears rescue, who brought us loads of goodies for the dogs in our care, and gave us loads of great advice

Many thanks Sylvia and Bill

17th November

Today we collected yet another 2 dogs from the pound a male Border Collie who is stunning but extremely under weight and medium size cross breed bitch who is alos underweight.  Many Thanks to Ellie who helped with the dog run and also thank you to Yvonne Parkins who took on the cross breed. We have christened them Seren and Tim.

Also today Georgie who fosters our kittens took in 2 brothers. They have a heavy worm burden and need neutering but a few weeks of tlc and they will be ready to home.

14th Novemeber

Today 2 dogs arrived Nasher and Dasher they are brother and sister and are lab crosses, they were rescued by dedicated animal lover Trudie James of the Doris Banham Sanctuary off death row. They currently have over 100 dogs in their care so we agreed to take 2 to lighten their load a little. Both seem very freindly dogs and once neutered will be looking for a loving home.

10th Novemeber

Today another dog came in from the pound, Chunky is a 7yr old very friendly castrated male Staffordshire Bull Terrier more details on the Dogs for adoption page.

8th November

Great News Heidi went to her new forever home today with Rachel and Chris, we are so grateful to them both for giving Heidi a chance in the last stages of her life, we will keep you up dated on her progress. But judging by the way Heidi and Rachels dog Meg got on with each other on Newport beach i dont think there will be any problems. Thanks again to Rachel and Chris and also to Amanda and Family who fostered Heidi until she found her forever home.

6th November

The two pigs Claudia and Camilla have now moved into there new enclosure, and are loving it. They have dug up most of the grass already, but look really happy.  Jerry and Tom two dogs that came from the pound are settling in well and i'm sure wont be here to long. The £1 appeal is going well we have already had donations of £21, hopefully this will get to £100 soon so we can then bath the dogs inside in the warm.

Sadly Red a male Staffordshire Bull Terrier we rehomed 2 months ago is coming back to us, its owners landlord has now said they cannot have pets so poor old Red is coming back to kennels.  There are so many animals needing our help we are desperate for foster homes if you feel you could offer one of our dogs a forever or foster home please please get in touch.

We also have hopefully found a retirement home for Heidi our 10 year old Collie more details on this soon.

1st Novemebr

Today is a day for celebration one of the first dogs that ever came into the rescue 'Duffy' has gone to her forever home. This has been a long time coming but has been worth the wait as i'm sure that Paul is the person for her.  Sam has also gone to his lovely new home today too.

Lots of people are trying really hard to find Heidi somewhere to spend the rest of her days, lets hope we find somewhere soon. We try to keep her out of the kennel as much as we can, she is quite active and likes to follow you around. There is lots of life left in this girl yet.

The pig pen is nearly finished, Claudia and Camilla should be able to move into there new home tomorrow.

31st October

Everyone is really sad at the rescue today

Today we took in a 10 year old Collie bitch called Heidi we were told that her owner had passed away, and her family could not keep her as one of their children turned out to be "allergic !". The person that dropped her off appeared to be in a hurry, so didnt hang around long. When we had a good look at this very sweet little dog, she had a lemon size lump on her belly and a hard lump all around her throat, . We have taken her to the vet and have been advised that it is too late for any treatment and to let her live the rest of her life without veterinary intervention until she is suffering. This little dog is very sweet, obedient, still full of life and enjoyment, she has obviously been a loyal dog to someone. She should not have to spend what time she has left in kennels. If anyone can help with a foster home please contact us ASAP

(any bills will be paid by Green Acres Rescue)
